bio
Amon Bahran Aleme Selassie is a German-Ethiopian photographer and filmmaker based in Berlin. He was trained as a film editor at ARRI, working on national and international film projects. Simultaneously, he developed his photography, working both digitally and analog. Film photography strongly influences his style and image design, which is inherently dreamy with a sense of nostalgia. His work centers the belonging of Black people in Germany, imagining photography as a medium of empowerment, freedom and cultural identity throughout fashion and advertisement. Amon Bahran's goal is equality through representation, since Black people still do not get the same visibility in media, fashion and art. To feel equal, you need to feel seen.
His personal experiences growing up as a Black person in Germany nourishes his artistic language. It allows him to highlight the diversity and beauty of the Black community in Germany while questioning social norms.
